Science in Everyday Life
Everyday science for UPSC — light, sound, heat, electricity and household chemistry, plus nutrition, vitamins, diseases, immunity and public-health milestones.
SyllabusGS III · Science and technology — developments and their applications and effects in everyday life
UPSC Prelims regularly asks basic science framed around daily life: why the sky is blue, why a pressure cooker cooks faster, what baking soda is, which vitamin prevents scurvy, which mosquito spreads dengue. The level is NCERT (Classes 6–10), but the questions are worded to catch half-remembered facts. Mains GS III uses the same science to ask about public health, nutrition, antimicrobial resistance and scientific temper.
Key sub-topics in this chapter
